Tora-san travels to the north, he heard that an old friend of his has just died. He travels to his friend’s hometown and met his daughter, Sumire. The old friend of Tora-san was a drunkard, he has never treated Sumire as he should. So, Sumire has to go to work at a very early age. When she decides to continue her work and study in Tokyo, Tora-san is very eager to takes her to Tokyo and sets her up for a job. When they arrive in Tokyo, people have mistaken Tora-san as a kidnapper of Sumire. Fortunately Sumire helps him to explain in time. Sumire is grateful for Tora-san’s kindness, and as part of her plan to better herself, she begins to attend night school. Everyone in the Tora-san family has taken part to help her. One night, her old boyfriend shows up. Against Tora-san’s wishes, the two decide to get married.
